Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

· What is the Online Association?

AHDI is the tree.

We are one of its branches, also known as a component.

· Why an Online Association?

For MTs to bounce things off one another, to meet the needs for interaction for MTs who do not have a nearby local chapter to bounce things off each other, to support the work of the local chapters and National AHDI goals, to eat the whole bowl of chocolate at the meetings without anybody watching…and to make us HAPPY!

· Can I belong to two components at once?

Yes.  It does a body good.

(You can only be an officer in one at a time unless you are two-headed.)

· Why did you use a bridge on your web pages and name your newsletter “Bridging Boundaries”?

It’s where we go to bungee jump when we are overstressed.

· I want to help.  Do you have committees?

Do monkeys have bananas?! (NO BANANAS, BUT WE HAVE COMMITTEES!)

Click "Committees" on the left side of your screen!

· Who is responsible for what goes on around here, anyway?

Click "Officers/Board Members" on the left side of your screen!

· I have money. I have birthdays. I’m rich or related to somebody rich.

· I celebrate Christmas. How do I find out what is for sale?

· How do I find out who else is in the Online Association?

1. We have a forum for issues and discussions of chapter business:  http://www.oa-ahdi.org/forum/.  You can find out who is in our chapter by going to the forum and clicking on “Member List.”

2. We have a Yahoo group (networking group) where we meet for chocolate, coffee, and "how’s-the-cat?" discussions.  Contact Networking@oa-ahdi.org for an invitation.

· Are the Online Association CEC (continuing education credit) classes the same as those offered by AHDI/OAK Horizons?

No.  They are different opportunities – different times, different stations, different bath water.

· How do I find out what CECs are coming up?

1. Check the scrolling announcements on the Online Chapter home page: http://www.oa-ahdi.org

OR

2. Read the “Members Only” or "Announcements" section of the OA-AHDI Forum: http://www.oa-ahdi.org/forum/

 OR

3. Watch the AHDI Public Forum  http://www.ahdionline.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=27

(scroll down to the Online Association.)

· I’m not certified. Do I need a CEC certificate?

Absolutely! You can prove to a future employer that you are committed to excellence and taking initiative to learn on your own.

And you’ll look real smart, too!

· What if I lose the address to the Online Association home page or CEC conference room?

Don’t!

But…if you do:

1. Bring a bag of M&Ms to an OA-AHDI member to find it for you. Then left click on Bookmarks at top of browser page, then click “add.”

OR

2.  Bring Snickers to an OA-AHDI member to find it for you. Then left click on Favorites, then click “add.”

OR

3. Bring Reese’s cups to an OA-AHDI member to find it for you. Then right click in a white space on the page, click “add to bookmarks” and/or click “add to favorites;” and/or click “create a shortcut” which will place an icon on your desktop.

OR

4. Scream.  Someone will help you for an IOU.

· How do I hear what is being said in the CEC conference room?

Put on your earphones with mic, connected to your speakers OR just turn up your speakers and push back in your recliner (and turn up your hearing aid, dearie!)

 · Do I (or my friends) have to join OA-AHDI or AHDI to take CECs?

No. Just keep us in mind if/when you would like more friends.

(AHDI has turned a corner; it’s not your grandma’s association anymore!)

· How do I view an archived class?

Once you pay through PayPal, be sure to click "Return to Merchant" and you are redirected to a page with complete instructions and a download button.  Note:  If you have already paid to attend the live presentation, you are not required to pay again.  Simply send an email to CECSupport@oa-ahdi.org and they'll send you the information you need to view the archive.

· How do I ask a question during CECs?

Type ? and send.  While waiting, type your question in the box.  As soon as you are recognized by the presenter or moderator, then press send.  (You could interrupt, but then everybody would glare at you with those eyes!)

· How do I make a comment during CECs?

Type ! and “send.” While waiting, type your comment in the box.  As soon as you are recognized by the presenter, press “send.”  (You could blurt it out, but we would send someone to chop off your fingers.)

· How do I talk so other people in the room hear me?

Hold control button down while you talk in the microphone.  Once the presentation begins, the individual microphones are turned off (to hold down your oooo’s and ah-h-h-h-h’s)! At these times, you will want to wait until the presenter unlocks his/her mic and asks you to participate.  Then you will need to type ? or !.

(The last person who stood on the roof and yelled was heard poorly by 1/3 of the membership.)

· How can I talk to another member without interrupting?

Click on their name and send a private message.  (We discourage this as well as looking over the walls in the bathrooms.)

· How do I collect my CEC certificate?

At the end of the presentation, you will be prompted to click on a link to fill out a short evaluation of the presentation. Once you have completed the evaluation, you will see another link called 'Certificate of Completion'.  It is suggested that you print the certificate as well as save it on your hard drive.  If you have any technical difficulty with this process, please send a memo to someone on the Tech Committee, CECSupport@oa-ahdi.org.

(If you do not use your real name, we send the certificate to a penguin Antarctica.)

· How do I get a CEC certificate if I didn’t get it at class?

Write someone on the Tech Committee; they are the only members whose left brain works.

CECSupport@oa-ahdi.org

· What is a Cert Connector?

No, it’s not a ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzap electrical connection.  It is the person who will help you with all the details of getting certified and recertified – everything but taking the test for you.  CertConnector@oa-ahdi.org
