HIPAA, ARRA, HITECH, and Other Fun Laws

This new presentation covers the many laws that impact medical transcriptionists and medical transcription services as business associates will have greater privacy and security requirements in February of 2010. Learn how to be ready for these changes.
Brenda has been a medical transcriptionist, an educator, and has served in a variety of transcription and management roles for nearly 40 years. She is currently an independent consultant in the medical transcription industry.
Brenda has been a member of the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) since 1981, and has been credentialed as a CMT for over 26 years, and received the designation of Fellow of AHDI in 2002. She served on the AHDI Board of Directors for a total of 12 years, and as its President in 1988 and in 1995. In 2005, Hurley was honored as the first recipient of the AHDI Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award. She is the current AHDI Speaker of the House of Delegates.
Brenda has been a member of ASTM International since 1995. She is the current Secretary of the E31 Executive Committee and Chair of the E31.15 subcommittee, Health Information Capture and Documentation.

Don't Fall Into the Mousetrap

The mouse may be a handy tool for the casual computer user, but for MTs who are practically attached to our keyboards many hours a day, using the mouse can slow us down! There are ways to avoid "the rat," through efficient use of our expanders, macros, and using "hot keys."
Sandi is a seasoned MT, in the field for a couple of decades. Before her MT life, Sandi worked in the IT/computer field, so she is always trying to find ways to put technology to use to make the MT's job easier.
Sandi is a board member of OA-AHDI and on several committees as well as on the board of her local AHDI chapter. She currently works in speech recognition and teaches healthcare courses and medical transcription courses, as well as doing healthcare documentation consulting. Hear about RSI (repetitive stress injuries) and how the "rodent" is often the culprit; then learn ways to kick him to the curb!

She authors the "Let's Talk Terms" column in Plexus, as well as "Cryptophiles" for the electronic version of the Advance Magazine for Healthcare Professionals.

The Art of Writing Your Resume

Judy was a school teacher for over 20 years, and upon retirement, renewed an old career -- that of medical transcription. She has worked as a transcriptionist for several medical centers in Nebraska and Louisiana, and also as an editor. She is active in AHDI, LA-AHDI, and OA-AHDI. She lives with her husband, 2 cats and 1 dog in Opelousas, Louisiana where she owns "ABC Documents," a document preparation service.
Judy will examine the various parts of a resume using a format that she uses in her business. She will discuss each part in detail, noting what information is important and why. Attendees will be eligible for a complimentary resume prepared by Judy.
